Ammonia against bedbugs is one of the most effective methods in the fight against “uninvited guests.” Toxic drugs are not an option for insect baiting for everyone, but ammonia is an accessible, inexpensive, and practically safe way to solve the problem.
To confirm the effectiveness of ammonia in the fight against parasites, it is worth understanding the principle of action of the composition, its pros and cons.
It would be a good idea to learn how to use ammonia correctly to ensure results.
Rules of application
There are several options for using ammonia against bedbugs:
- Pour into small vessels and leave where parasites are most common. It is important to place containers in such a way that they remain out of the reach of children and pets.
- Add ammonia to a container of water to wash floors. They also add a little denatured alcohol to kill bedbugs and use kerosene. The composition is poured into the cracks. A cotton swab soaked in the substance is placed inside the sofa, in the closet, bedside table, under the mattress.
After the anti-bedbug alcohol has been used for its intended purpose, the exterminator must leave the premises (it is better to go outside).
Otherwise, a person may experience a migraine, dizziness, and difficulty breathing . It’s a good idea to rinse your mouth with clean water, wash your face with soap, and wash your clothes.
The most effective means
Dry heat
The most active control against pests is temperature. Use what is called "Dry Heat". This is heated air. Its temperature should be 48 0C or higher. The air can be heated to this temperature using various devices for heating rooms. To get rid of bedbugs you need to treat the room with this heat for 6 to 8 hours.
Steam
Use of steam. The most common type in the fight against bedbugs using folk remedies. Steam everything you can. Bed linen and clothing, toys, sofas and pillows. If the room is heavily contaminated, treat furniture, carpets, and outerwear. You can also add washing things at high temperatures, pouring boiling water over the most extensive habitats of bedbugs. The effect is instant. This will significantly reduce the insect population. But you should be careful, because careless fighting can lead to damage to your property and neighbors.
Cold
Cold or freezing method. If possible, take your things, bedding and furniture outside and leave them for 5-8 hours. If this is not possible, open the windows and let the cold into the apartment. If you want to get rid of bedbugs using this method, then you will have to leave your home for a while. Another important point remains that the optimal temperature for the death of bedbugs is 20 0C and below. If such temperatures are rare in your region, avoid this method.
Household liquids
Everyone on the household has vinegar, turpentine, camphor alcohol, kerosene, denatured alcohol (technical alcohol - a mixture of ethyl alcohol, kerosene and methanol). All these remedies are very effective in getting rid of bedbugs. There are many options and recipes against these parasites. Here are some:
- Mix 5g of camphor oil with 100ml of turpentine and 100ml of ethyl alcohol;
- Mix 20g of naphthalene with 100ml of kerosene and add 100ml of turpentine;
- Mix 5g of naphthalene with 150ml of denatured alcohol (this product is very practical when treating upholstered furniture, as it washes off well).
Also, turpentine, vinegar, denatured alcohol can be used in their pure form against parasites. Pour into all cracks and corners.
Bed bugs will not immediately leave your home. Do not wash or remove these liquids after a short time. You need to wait and then these helpers will help you get rid of insects. Scientists have proven that bedbugs do not like concentrated odors and aromas. On the contrary, diluted ones attract them.
Herbs
They are the safest and least labor-intensive means to get rid of pests. Truly, these are folk remedies that have been used for centuries. Wormwood, chamomile, black cohosh. Tansy and calamus were also used in the old days. They were ground and used a concentrated aroma to fight against bedbugs.
Traditional methods recommend using freshly picked herbs, but in the absence of such, you can buy them at the pharmacy. Place herbs everywhere - on the floor (especially in secluded corners), under the mattress, in the closet (if necessary, put sprigs on your underwear and clothes). Be careful when viewing clothes and upholstered furniture. It is necessary to detect places where pests accumulate. Bedbugs are very secretive and if you miss even one place of accumulation, the effect of such a fight will be minimal.
Wild rosemary is very effective (popularly called “bug grass”). The range of uses of this plant in the fight against bedbugs is very wide. Ledum is used not only in its “pure form”. It is used to make various means of combating bedbugs and the consequences after them. The decoction is used as a lotion to relieve itching after bedbug bites. The powder is used in well-ventilated areas, suspended in gauze bags.
Another good remedy for bedbug bites is wild rosemary ointment. Oil extract is also used for the same purpose. In the old days, to get rid of bedbugs, they fumigated the house with dried shoots of the plant. But in an apartment building this method is not practical.
Are they afraid
Answering the question of whether bedbugs are afraid of alcohol, we can answer unequivocally in the affirmative. The substance does not kill pests, but only drives them away. Parasitic organisms do not like the strong smell of the substance.
For bedbugs, ammonia is a significant irritant; it does not allow them to continue living in the apartment - the insects try to leave their previous habitat.
In some cases, only active movement of insects between rooms is observed.
What exactly are bedbugs afraid of?
Here are the means and methods that will definitely harm bedbugs:
- boiling water;
- hot fog;
- use of insecticides.
To combat bedbugs, diatomite is also used - this is a rock consisting of the shells of diatoms. It is ground into powder, the particles of which have abrasive properties. When they land on the bedbug’s body, the waxy coating of the carapace is damaged. The damage increases the evaporation of moisture, which leads to the death of the parasite from dehydration.
ECOKILLER - what is it and how to use it correctly
ECOKILLER is a natural insecticide based on diatomite. It is sold in bottles with a long and narrow dispenser tube. With its help, you can pour the powder into all places where bedbugs can hide: behind the baseboard, sofa, bed mattress and small crevices. After a day, the house needs to be wet cleaned. If parasites are detected, the procedure is repeated.
How does Ecokiller work?
Here are the advantages of ECOKILLER:
- The product has no odor.
- Diatomite is not addictive to insects.
- The powder is safe for humans and animals. It is often used to produce dietary supplements and vitamin-mineral complexes.
- The product is used sparingly. For processing an apartment of 50 square meters. one bottle of 500 ml is enough. You can order it here.
The fight against bedbugs requires urgent measures. Parasites can be removed using different methods. But those products that harm bedbugs are also dangerous for humans. Therefore, they cannot be used in a home with children. In this case, it is better to use an alternative and no less effective method, which is to treat the home with diatomaceous earth powder. After contact with it, bedbugs will die within 7–9 days.
Order a safe bedbug repellent
What you need to know before processing
Ammonia against bedbugs should be used with caution. Before starting treatment, it is necessary to remove all residents and pets from the apartment (house) (the composition is lethal for pets). Only the person who intends to carry out the treatment remains in the affected area.
When using ammonia, it is important to maintain the proportion of components: water and alcohol in the composition. Recommended dosage: 3 tbsp. l. per liter of water.
Salty spills or HEAT
The recommendation is extremely simple: use the elements. We are talking about salty hot water. Pour a large amount of salt into the water, boil it, and then pour it around the room, sparing the surrounding objects. However, you cannot get carried away: there is always a risk of flooding something unnecessary. Indiscriminateness is followed by material waste. Feel free to include carpets, shelves, beds, and stools in the list of potential sources of infection.
Carefully go over the bed linen with an iron, which (preferably) has a steam release function.
In addition, if you live in cold conditions or in an area where the climate is very hot, then it would be a sin not to take advantage of the following advice. The fact is that bedbugs are afraid of temperatures above 45 degrees. Try heating your living space to this state (unlikely, but possible). In addition, insects do not survive extreme cold. Take note of this too...
Preventing apartment infestation
In order not to wonder how to get rid of bedbugs at home, you should pay attention to preventing the appearance of bedbugs.
Measures to prevent the infestation of an apartment by parasites include several points:
- Carrying out regular cleaning: washing floors, cleaning furniture, washing household items.
- Identification of gaps, cracks in the wall, filling them with a sealing compound.
- Inspection of any pieces of furniture delivered from store warehouses and other residential premises.
- Elimination of sanitary and technical defects.
- Carrying out preliminary disinfestation at the time of moving into a new apartment.
- Using a vacuum cleaner when cleaning hard-to-reach places.
- Carrying out timely repairs in the apartment (house): wallpapering, eliminating cracks and crevices in the walls, fixing baseboards.
- Regular washing of linen and household items.
- Awareness of the main signs of pest infestation: bite marks, remains of dried shells, visual contact, dead individuals.
Compliance with these measures will help prevent the infestation of insects and relieve homeowners from fighting parasites.
Removing bedbugs by physical and thermal methods
Physical methods of exterminating bedbugs in an apartment are considered the safest. True, their effectiveness is low.
You need to vacuum the mattress, bed linen, upholstery, carpets, baseboards, and toys. The contents of the bag are shaken out as far as possible from the house and immediately filled with boiling water. The fabric itself must be washed at high temperatures. For these purposes, it is convenient to use a vacuum cleaner with an aqua filter.
As for thermal methods, most often they are based on a sharp change in temperature. It is necessary to create conditions that will be unsuitable for the survival of the parasites under discussion. Bedbugs cannot withstand extreme cold (below -15 degrees) and heat (above +50 degrees).
To freeze in winter, you can simply take textile items, small armchairs, ottomans, mattresses to the balcony and leave them for a day. It is also important to use hot water or steam. To do this, you can pour boiling water over the discovered nest of parasites or places where they accumulate, and treat problem areas with a steamer.
Advantages and disadvantages
Ammonia for bedbugs in an apartment, like any folk remedy, has a number of advantages and disadvantages.
They are shown in the table below:
pros | Minuses |
— the composition is practically harmless to health, since it is characterized by a low level of toxicity - alcohol is available. The product can be purchased at a pharmacy (in a small container) or at a gardening supply store (in large quantities) — it is possible to choose any volume of the substance (from 10 to 500 ml) - ammonia has a strong smell, but dissipates well — the composition does not leave marks on the surface of furniture and other objects | - no effect of alcohol on eggs protected by a compacted shell — impossibility of damaging the respiratory organs of parasites - relative effectiveness of the product: some insects may remain immune to the composition and continue to reproduce |
We are talking about a fairly effective folk remedy; it is able to demonstrate the expected result with an insignificant pest infestation.
If we are talking about a large population of insects that has settled in an apartment, it is worth turning to supportive methods of controlling bedbugs.
How to permanently get rid of bedbugs at home?
The problem of finding the best means for killing bedbugs at home has always existed . This is due to the fact that bed bugs have become uninvited guests in people’s homes from the very moment that primitive people began to use permanent habitats with a comfortable constant temperature inside for living. We will tell you about time-tested methods of fighting bed bugs and explain in detail how to get rid of bed bugs permanently, quickly and with a guarantee at home. And the experience of previous generations will help us with this, so the topic of the article is folk remedies for bed bugs.
Folk remedies for bed bugs.
Let us immediately make a reservation that specialists in disinfection against bedbugs in Moscow, Service Company ENGINEER, recognize such methods as effective at home only if there are few bedbugs in your apartment and you know exactly where they live . Folk remedies are grouped according to the main component of the solutions used.
1) Turpentine . Every good housewife has turpentine in her arsenal. Maybe. There are several recipes for how to permanently get rid of bedbugs at home using this liquid:
– Mix a spoonful of turpentine, kerosene (every good housewife also has it), 25-30 grams of green soap (also called Fitosporin-M or PS paste), and 65-80 ml of water (or in proportion to the desired volume). The resulting composition is used to treat the suspected habitat of bedbugs in your apartment or house, then the room must be tightly closed for 24 hours, and then thoroughly ventilated. When preparing the composition, do not forget to wear rubber gloves and do not allow the liquid to come into contact with the mucous membranes. In case of contact, rinse thoroughly with water;
– If you have turpentine, but do not have Fitosporin-M or kerosene, but have carbolic and salicylic acid, then mix a large spoon of turpentine with the same spoon of carbolic acid and add half a spoon of salicylic acid. Use the resulting liquid to treat the apartment using the method described above;
– Another recipe for a folk remedy for bed bugs for disinfection against bed bugs at home using turpentine – 0.5 liters of turpentine, 200-250 grams of kerosene, 100-150 grams of medical alcohol, 150 milliliters of water, 50 grams of naphthalene (at the same time the moth should disappear).
2) Vinegar . Already lighter than turpentine. Vinegar-based products are more environmentally friendly and do not pose any harm to health, but their effectiveness as a remedy for bed bugs, unfortunately, has not been confirmed by research:
– Mix vinegar, denatured alcohol and naphthalene in equal proportions, treat areas where bedbugs accumulate. It does not guarantee the destruction of bedbugs in an apartment, so it is recommended to treat the premises once every two to three days until the parasites are completely destroyed, or until you get tired of it and you contact a specialized service in Moscow to disinfect your apartment from bedbugs;
– Mix vinegar with a strong decoction of wormwood. Treat the room with this composition. Bed bugs should be repelled by the smell of the solution. This composition will not affect the vital activity of insects.
3) Denatured alcohol (technical alcohol), aviation liquid or aviation kerosene . How to get rid of bedbugs at home and quickly using these means? It is necessary to catch all the bedbugs in the apartment and force them to drink these very liquids. Joke. The premises of the apartment are treated with each liquid separately (without mixing). If for some reason you have a lot of similar compounds, then you can try to get rid of bedbugs forever with their help. Traditional disinfection against bedbugs in action.
4) You can also try to remove bed bugs from an apartment using a solution that has an original composition - mix medical alcohol, hydrogen peroxide and salted water , and treat the suspected areas where bed bugs accumulate.
5) Take a lot of valerian solution and water it generously on sofas, beds and bedding. This method is definitely not suitable if there are cats in the apartment.
6) If you have not yet lost hope of getting rid of bedbugs at home using folk remedies, then here is another recipe worthy of medieval alchemists: 200 ml of kerosene, 150 ml of cresol and on top of 10 grams of naphthalene . The result should not be a liquid, but a thick substance like paint, so treating the accumulation of bed bugs will need to be done with a brush.
7) Remember the bearded joke - two people meet, one asks the other:
-Did you get rid of bedbugs in your apartment?
- No…
– have you tried taking the sofa out into the cold?
– I tried, but the bugs are bringing it back...
But you can try to get rid of bed bugs using this unique method of disinfecting an apartment - bed bugs should die in the cold within 24 hours . It is not clear, however, how applicable this method is for exterminating bedbugs in an apartment in a metropolis like Moscow, whether this will guarantee their complete destruction and whether your furniture will not disappear.
Bed bugs do not like not only low but also high temperatures . Getting rid of bedbugs quickly, inexpensively (almost free) and with a guarantee is possible when exposed to temperatures from 50 degrees Celsius. The method may be suitable for processing clothing. Create an extermination chamber of your own by placing bedbug-infested clothing in the trunk on a hot summer day.
9) A more extreme method of temperature exposure is to treat all non-combustible structures with a gas burner flame, if, of course, you find such in your Moscow apartment.
10) If you have cedar oil, you can dilute it with water and treat the apartment . Bed bugs should be repelled by the smell; destruction, as in the case of valerian, does not occur. Similarly, you can try to get rid of parasites at home with dried tansy and wormwood.
11) If you are able to fall asleep with artificial lighting on and at the same time do not want to pay any company to disinfect your apartment from bedbugs with a guarantee, turn on this light source at night, perhaps bedbugs will not come out hunting that night.
If you continue to prefer traditional methods of fighting bedbugs to the services of a specialized service for fighting bedbugs and cockroaches, then these insects will continue to sleep during the day in cracks, furniture, clothes, bedding, books and any other warm places. At night they will come out to eat, just keep in mind that you and your pets will be the food for them. Don’t let bedbugs poison your life - call the specialized apartment disinfection service in Moscow Service Company “ENGINEER” by phone +7 (495) 120-4435 and order a bedbug extermination service in Moscow with a Guarantee . We provide a guarantee for our services for exterminating bedbugs in an apartment, and if you are dissatisfied with the result, we will re-treat the premises absolutely FREE.
Similar methods
As “insurance” when controlling pests with ammonia, it is advisable to use the following means:
Means | Action and application |
Kerosene | Pests are afraid of the smell of kerosene. It prevents insects from breathing by blocking air transport. The parasite does not die. In order to demonstrate the best effect, the substance must be in its pure form (not diluted) and combined with naphthalene |
Denatured alcohol (technical alcohol 90%) | The product is effective in the fight against adults, larvae and eggs. Denatured alcohol cannot be used directly in the apartment - only pest nests must be treated. The substance is highly flammable, highly toxic and can cause severe coughing. |
Vinegar | The basic advantage of such a product is its safety for human health when used externally. The natural component can repel or destroy insects. You will need to treat the surfaces of the furniture with vinegar (you should use a cotton pad or cloth). The substance is diluted with water and used in its pure form. |
Turpentine | The substance is flammable and toxic. Insects are frightened by the specific aroma of turpentine. Before starting to work with turpentine, you must wear protective gloves and leave the room after using the product. If the chemical gets on the skin, the area should be treated with soap. |
Vodka | Vodka kills bedbugs on the same principle as industrial alcohol. However, it is less dangerous |
With the help of the given available means, it is possible to ensure the extermination of parasites. Among the most effective means that kill bedbugs are not only vodka, kerosene, turpentine, etc. This list can be continued with less toxic means: camphor oil, wormwood, tansy, etc.
What to do if there are bedbugs in the house, what folk remedies are best to use?
If a bug appears in your house (for example, you discovered its initial bites, or accidentally noticed an adult on clothes, furniture, etc.), the first thing you need to do is try to assess the current situation as objectively as possible
It is important to understand whether a single individual appeared in the house, which was brought in by accident, or whether the bedbugs have already managed to multiply. If bedbugs have settled in the house, you need to try to assess the extent of the infestation of the home - for example, it may be a local infestation (with one habitat for insects, say, in the sofa), when the bedbugs have not yet spread throughout the entire apartment
And sometimes, it can be a total infestation of the home, when parasites are found in all rooms, the kitchen and even the bathroom.
It should be clearly understood that the destruction of bedbugs using folk remedies can only be effective in those rare cases if there are not too many blood-sucking parasites in the house, and you yourself understand exactly where their location is. And folk remedies against bedbugs will be completely powerless if the apartment has been infested for more than one month, and the population of bedbugs reaches impressive sizes.
In general, as professional exterminators assure, it is quite difficult to rid a home of a population of blood-sucking parasites using only folk remedies to combat bedbugs, since in the vast majority of cases, folk recipes are not capable of destroying the insect, they can only scare it away for a while.
However, for those who are wondering: how to get rid of bedbugs using folk remedies without buying ready-made insecticides, we suggest looking at what folk remedies are generally “in service.” The main methods that involve the destruction of bedbugs using folk remedies include:
- Mechanical methods in which a washing vacuum cleaner or slipper is used.
- Methods of exposing parasites to high or extremely low temperatures. In this case, folk recipes involve taking the contaminated furniture out into the cold or forty-degree heat. This also includes techniques for burning affected surfaces with steam or boiling water.
- An herbal technique in which it is recommended to use poisonous herbs (both in the form of decoctions and in the form of spreading them around the apartment), such as wormwood, say, or tansy.
- The method of using strong-smelling liquids. Among such solutions there may be recipes based on turpentine, naphthalene, the same salicylic acid, denatured alcohol and vinegar.
In general, it is believed that an integrated approach to baiting bedbugs is the most effective. Ideally, your chosen folk remedies for bed bugs will be supplemented with mechanical, temperature, and even chemical baiting methods.
Reviews
If you evaluate reviews of the use of ammonia in baiting bedbugs, you can draw a conclusion about the relative effectiveness of the product.
Some representatives remain faithful to traditional methods and note fairly good processing results. Others, on the contrary, consider the measure useless and even aggravating: pests not only do not leave the home, but also begin to actively move around the apartment in search of “shelter.”
The opinion of experts on this matter is clear: it is impossible to get rid of bedbugs using folk remedies, including ammonia, especially if we are talking about a massive infestation of insects. The best option is to use methods exclusively as part of prevention.
When identifying signs of pests living in the house, it is better to immediately move on to the “heavy artillery”.
The most effective method in this case will be professional help from SES employees: they will not only find the cause of the problem, but will also select the most effective pest control remedy for the case.
Thus, ammonia is a relatively effective, practically safe remedy for bedbugs. The smell of the substance is frightening, but does not kill insects. It is important to follow safety precautions before and after using the method. The effect of ammonia depends on the degree of infestation of the apartment (house) with bedbugs.
Alternative or additional means to combat bloodsuckers include: vodka, technical alcohol, vinegar and a number of others.
Conscious and regular prevention against bedbugs will protect residents from unwanted neighbors and save them from searching for solutions to an unpleasant problem.
Folk remedies against bedbugs with turpentine
Turpentine is one of the most favorite components in folk remedies. There are many recipes for preparing mixtures with turpentine to kill bedbugs using folk remedies. Preparation of poison and disinfestation work must be carried out wearing rubber gloves. This technical liquid is very poisonous and is used to destroy parasite nests.
The most popular folk remedies with turpentine against bedbugs:
- Mix 100 ml of water at room temperature, 10 ml of turpentine, 15 ml of kerosene, 100 ml of liquid soap in a sprayer, treat areas where bed bugs accumulate and the surrounding area.
- Combine turpentine and ethyl alcohol in equal proportions, 5 g of camphor.
- Mix 100 ml of turpentine, 10 ml of kerosene and 15 g of naphthalene.
- 80 ml of turpentine, 40 g of phenol, 6 g of salicylic acid.
Turpentine for bedbugs
Sagebrush
Wormwood has long been used to repel various insects, including bed bugs. In villages and villages, one could often see bunches of wormwood in houses, hanging over beds or simply hanging throughout the house. But is it worth using this experience of our ancestors today and does wormwood really help cleanse the house of bedbugs?
How does wormwood act on bedbugs?
The fact that bedbugs are afraid of wormwood is idle fiction, but a fact established by science. Moreover, it is not the appearance of the plant that repels bedbugs, but the spicy, bitter smell.
Advice! Therefore, freshly cut grass is most effective against bedbugs. As wormwood dries out, it loses most of its aroma and is no longer as effective.
That is, the use of wormwood allows you to solve the problem only for a short period of time. This plant contains no insecticide and will not kill bed bugs or affect their laying of eggs or larvae.
Even if you live outside the city, you can constantly obtain fresh wormwood only in the summer. In winter, you will have to use a tincture or decoction made from dry herbs. Alcohol tincture is rarely used, since you will have to purchase alcohol to prepare it. But a decoction of wormwood will cost almost free, if, of course, you prepare enough raw materials in the summer.
Wormwood and tansy to combat bedbugs
Tansy
The use of wormwood and tansy as remedies against bed bugs is effective only in small concentrations of insects and as a preventive measure. The thing is that bedbug tansy and wormwood do not destroy insects, but only repel them with their pungent odor.
OUR READERS RECOMMEND! In the fight against bedbugs, our readers recommend the Pest-Reject repeller. Electromagnetic and ultrasonic technology is 100% effective against bedbugs, cockroaches and other insects. Absolutely safe, environmentally friendly product for humans and pets.
Freshly harvested grass is placed in places of possible penetration into the room: near door and window openings, along baseboards, near ventilation grilles. Tansy and wormwood against bedbugs can be spread between the base of the bed and the mattress.
The disadvantage of folk methods is the short duration of action of tansy and wormwood. After a few days, the grass will dry out and stop releasing strong essential oils. In addition, freshly cut plants cannot be used to control insects throughout the year.
Important! In the cold season, for prevention, you can use a decoction of dry herbs, wormwood or tansy.
Resin and turpentine to combat bedbugs
Resin is a resin from coniferous trees and has a pungent odor due to the volatile substances in its composition, after processing which produces turpentine. The pungent pine smell repels insects, and toxic substances destroy them.
Treatment of places where insects spread should be carried out with a solution of oleoresin or turpentine with the addition of other components, which can be kerosene, ammonia, tar soap or naphthalene. When using such solutions, it is necessary to use personal protective equipment: rubber gloves, gauze bandage or respirator.
After treating the room with a solution containing toxic substances, you must leave the apartment for a day and repeat the treatment after 5 days. These folk remedies for bedbugs are not popular due to the long-lasting heavy odor that lingers in the room after use.
Healthy recipes
There are several simple recipes, the use of which is given the greatest preference when faced with the problem of the appearance of these parasites:
- Mix soap, kerosene and water in a ratio of 7:20:10. Treat all rooms and pieces of furniture with the composition (with the exception of clothing, dishes, personal hygiene items).
- Take a bar of laundry soap and grate it. Mix the resulting shavings with carbon disulfide, then add kerosene. Next, you need to pour the entire mixture through a funnel into a plastic bottle of a suitable size. After this, mix with water in a 1:1 ratio and treat all rooms in the house. The procedure should be repeated after a week.
- Mix ammonia and turpentine in a ratio of 5:1. Treat all rooms of the house or apartment.
Attention: the described methods are effective until the peak of infection occurs, that is, while there are few bedbugs in the apartment. In advanced cases, resorting to powerful chemical means of control is inevitable.
What folk methods are used to kill bedbugs?
You can remove bedbugs using traditional methods that involve physical destruction.
You can get rid of bedbugs mechanically by the following means:
- Vacuum cleaner. They immediately collect many adults and eggs. During processing, it is important to use sealed disposable dust bags, which must be destroyed after collecting insects, for example, by burning or thoroughly treating with an insecticide.
- Hot water. A nest of bedbugs or a piece of furniture densely infested with bedbugs can be poured with boiling water. You can also wash home furnishings or wash textiles with hot water. For a better effect, add laundry or tar soap to the water.
- Steam generator. This is a more modern and effective mechanical method. The device directs a stream of steam even to the most inaccessible places or into the thickness of upholstered furniture and kills pests there. When exposed to elevated temperatures, the chitinous shell of bedbugs is destroyed. This is a fairly effective means of killing bedbugs, but it requires accuracy, care, and thoroughness.
- Boric acid. This folk remedy is used to destroy not only bedbugs, but also other insects. When the powder comes into contact with a pest, it corrodes its shell, and when inhaled by insects, it destroys it from the inside. You can sprinkle it directly on the accumulation of parasites or on the paths along which they move. Baking soda works in much the same way.
- Diatomite This is a powder of natural origin, crushed rock. It is safe for humans, but if it comes into contact with a bug, it causes dehydration.
Ammonia and denatured alcohol to combat bedbugs
Denatured alcohol, which is technical alcohol, is used to kill bed bugs. To treat the room, a solution of denatured alcohol with the addition of a small amount of naphthalene is used. After treatment, the room must be ventilated. If necessary, re-treatment is possible after 5 days. After carrying out the procedure for removing insects in an apartment with denatured alcohol, no traces remain on the surface of the furniture.
Ammonia is a caustic substance used to kill bedbugs indoors. The smell of ammonia is unpleasant for blood-sucking insects, so after treating the apartment they may leave. You can place saucers filled with ammonia in inaccessible places.
All traditional methods do not guarantee 100% destruction of bedbugs and serve, first of all, for prevention or temporary disposal of insects. Subsequent treatment with chemical insecticides is necessary.
Insecticides - chemical poisons that destroy insects - help effectively fight bedbugs. However, not all people want to use chemicals in their home, preferring to use natural products. In particular, some herbs can be used in the fight against bedbugs. Let's look at which plants have insecticidal properties and how they can be used.
