Composition and pharmacological action
The main advantage of the drug is its versatility - it has an effect against 14 types of parasites (not only ectoparasites, but also helminths). It produces domestic medicine. A transparent liquid with a subtle odor of alcohol is packaged in polymer pipettes of various sizes. Thanks to this, it is easy to treat a satisfied animal.
The high efficiency and effect of the drug is due to two active substances, which are included in the composition:
- Fipronil is an insectoacaricide that blocks insect receptors. Due to disruption of the transmission of nerve impulses and malfunctions of the nervous system, the death of arthropods occurs.
- Moxidectin – when binding to insect receptors, causes muscle dysfunction, paralysis, and death as a result.
A feature of fipronil is that it is not absorbed into the bloodstream. The active substance accumulates on the surface of the skin and in the fur and begins to act upon direct contact with parasitic insects. Moxidentin penetrates into the bloodstream, and through it into organs and all systems. It remains in the body for a long period, after which it is excreted unchanged along with feces.
Mechanism of action and toxicity
Due to the fact that the drug contains two active substances at once, the drops help get rid of parasites if an infection has already occurred, and prevent infection over a long period. The active components affect the nervous system of fleas and other parasites, which leads to paralysis and then death.
As laboratory studies have shown, the drops are not capable of harming the animal if the pet is treated according to the instructions and recommendations. The active components do not affect the dog’s immune system and do not cause irritation to the skin.
IMPORTANT!
It is deadly for rabbits, fish and bees.
Indications for use
The instructions indicate that Inspector drops have a wide spectrum of action, so they can be used for dogs to treat and prevent infection with internal and external parasites. The drug is prescribed for prevention and in the presence of the following diseases:
- entomoses caused by fleas, lice and lice;
- demodicosis;
- sarcoptic mange;
- otodectosis;
- intestinal nematodes;
- infection with ixodid ticks;
- helminth damage.
The medicine can also be used in regions with mosquitoes to prevent dirofilariasis. “Inspector” does not work against adult individuals, but significantly reduces their activity.
Instructions for use
The dosage of the drug depends on the weight of the animal. According to the instructions for use, “Inspector” for dogs should be used in the following doses:
- For the smallest pets, whose weight varies from 1 to 4 kg, 0.4 ml of the drug is needed.
- For larger animals (weighing from 4 to 10 kg), you need to take 1 ml of Inspector.
- If the dog's weight is between 10 and 25 kg, 2.5 ml of the drug will be required.
- For animals weighing 25-40 kg, you need to take 4 ml of the product.
- For large dogs whose weight exceeds 40 kg, the dose should be calculated based on 0.1 ml of medication for each kilogram of weight.
The drug is sold in pipettes of the appropriate volume. Usually the packaging indicates what weight of dogs it is intended for, which greatly simplifies the choice. For larger dogs, several droppers will be needed, so be sure to calculate the correct dose.
Preventive measures and treatment of fleas
If "Inspector" for dogs is used to prevent infection by fleas, ticks or other parasites. The medicine is given once. The procedure should be repeated every 4-6 weeks throughout the entire period of ectoparasite activity, that is, from spring to autumn.
The animal must be treated at least 24 hours before its intended stay in areas at risk of infection. This could be a walk in a park or square, a trip to nature, moving to a temporary residence in the country, and so on.
If the dog is infected with fleas, lice or lice, the treatment should be carried out once and repeated after a month.
Treatment of otodectosis
If you are infected with ear mites, you must follow these steps:
- Clean the external auditory canal before instillation.
- Place 3-5 drops of the product into each ear, taking into account the weight of the animal. Both ears can be treated, even if only one is infected.
- Gently fold the ear and massage a little so that the drug is distributed evenly throughout the entire ear.
- The remaining preparation is applied to the withers.
- The medicine must be reapplied after 7-10 days, applying treatment 2-3 times. In some cases, severe infection requires repeating the course, but only after testing and examination by a doctor.
- If the infection is accompanied by otitis, then additional antibiotics must be taken.
If the eardrum is perforated, the medicine cannot be used. In this case, it is recommended to apply the drug to the area at the base of the neck.
Destruction of ixodid ticks
Reviews from dog owners confirm that Inspector drops are excellent at getting rid of ixodid ticks. If you see that a bloodsucker has attached itself to your pet, you need to drop one drop of the drug on it. If there are several ticks, then each insect must be treated. Within 20 minutes the insect will fall off on its own. Otherwise, use tweezers and carefully remove it.
Treatment of sarcoptic mange and demodicosis
If the medicine is used to treat demodicosis or sarcoptic mange, it is applied to the areas of skin damaged by parasites in a thin layer. The skin must first be cleaned. It is important to adhere to the dosages indicated above. If the disease is very widespread, the treatment is repeated every other day.
The procedure should be carried out 2-3 times, maintaining an interval of 7-10 days. The animal must not lick the medicine. To do this, you need to wear a muzzle or use a cervical collar. It should be removed after 20-30 minutes. After the course of treatment, it is necessary to conduct clinical studies.
Deworming and prevention of dirofilariasis
If helminths or intestinal nematodes are detected, as well as for their prevention, the treatment is carried out once and the procedure is repeated after a month. The drug should be used externally, as when fighting other parasites.
To prevent dirofilariasis, treatment is carried out before the start of the mosquito season in the spring. The procedure should be repeated once a month.

Pros and cons of parasite repellent
If we talk about the most effective means for dogs against harmful insects, then these are mostly collars. However, this protection has a number of both positive and negative characteristics.
Its main advantages are the following:
- Using the protection is very simple; to do this, you need to open the package and put it on the animal’s neck;
- The pet’s personal hygiene does not suffer. The strip does not stain the coat and does not leave greasy marks ;
- a fairly long period of validity from two to eight months.
But there are some drawbacks, the most significant of which are the following:
- the device is quite toxic due to its impregnation with potent chemicals;
- if two dogs live in the house, they may try to steal the device from each other;
- the effect does not begin to appear from the first day of wearing;
- the possibility of allergic reactions;
- the presence of an unpleasant odor in some models;
- Water resistance is not present in all varieties.
In addition, there are a number of contraindications to wearing this protection, and most of them are as follows:
- cannot be used if the pet is sick or its body is very weakened after illness;
- if there are visible damage to the skin, you should also not put the strip on the dog’s neck;
- for a puppy, you should choose exactly the variety that is designed for its weight and age; not all items that can be used for adult dogs are used for puppies;
- If you are using any other insect repellent, wearing a collar is prohibited.;
- If a pet lives in a house where there is a small child or a pregnant woman, then it poses a certain threat to the surrounding household.
Contraindications and side effects
Inspector drops are considered a safe drug, but in some cases it is better to avoid using it:
- if the puppy is under 7 weeks of age;
- if the animal is sick or has suffered an infectious disease;
- if the dog is old and its body is weakened;
- in case of intolerance to the components of the drug, which is accompanied by an allergy.
Pregnant bitches and during lactation are allowed to use the medicine under the supervision of a veterinarian. This also applies to dogs whose weight does not exceed 1 kg. For small dogs, the dose is calculated as follows: per 0.5 kg of weight, 0.05 ml of the drug (one drop). Not recommended for use in productive animals.
According to reviews, Inspector Total S is well tolerated by dogs. In rare cases, allergic reactions may occur, which manifest themselves in the form of redness and itching. In this case, the animal must be washed with soap. Symptoms usually resolve without intervention within a fairly short period of time. If this does not happen, consult a doctor.
Owner reviews
Alexander, pug owner:
“Our pug was repeatedly infected with helminths. The treatment turned into real agony, since the anti-parasite pills had to be taken in the morning on an empty stomach. There was often vomiting and weakness. The veterinarian advised us to use “Inspector” for prevention. After they started taking preventive measures, they forgot about parasites. I've already been tested twice, but the results are negative. I’m pleased with the effectiveness, so I recommend it to others.”
Ekaterina, Spitz owner:
“We live in a private house, so preventing parasite infection is very important. Previously, they always used German drops, but one day they were not available in the pharmacy. We bought "Inspector". Despite the fact that its price is lower, it copes well with the assigned functions. In two years of use, a tick was found once, but it fell off very easily, so I can say with confidence that the drug works.”
