Composition and release form
Aktara is a contact-intestinal drug, an insecticide belonging to the group of neonicotinoids. Produced by Syngenta in the form of water-dispersible granules and suspension concentrate.
The volume of the dry drug is 4 and 250 g, the liquid is bottled in 250 ml and 1 liter bottles. Aktara is also available in ampoules - 1 ml each. The suspension is packaged in ampoules (and 0.5 liter bottles), although the drug is produced by Syngenta.
The active ingredient of Aktara is thiamethoxam; the drug contains 250 g/kg and 240 g/l. The insecticide has a long protective effect - from 3 weeks to 2 months from the date of treatment (depending on the weather and method of application - spraying or watering). It will be effective even if you work in hot weather or high humidity, but the best temperature is 12-25˚C.
General information about the drug Aktara
Aktara insecticide belongs to the group of neonicotinoids with contact-intestinal action. It can be used to treat not only fruit trees, but also garden soil. This eliminates the possibility of the development of pest larvae, whose life cycle involves being in the ground. The prolongation of Aktar's properties increases to 2 months. The pesticide is characterized by the rapid action of the main substance - thiamethoxam: insects, their larvae and eggs begin to die within the first days after treating the plants.
Aktar release forms
The drug is absolutely harmless to soil microorganisms, earthworms, and birds. It does not cause parasites to become addicted to the active substance, so gardeners can use this effective remedy every year. When the pest gets on the body, thiamethoxam begins to show its toxic properties within half an hour. The insecticide is able to penetrate through the surface of leaves into the cell sap of plants. By eating poisoned green mass, pests are exposed to toxic substances of the drug through the digestive system.
First, the receptors in the insect's intestinal tract are suppressed, which is why it can no longer feed, and then the toxins act psychotropically. The pest’s nervous system is blocked, and a little later paralysis and death occur. Aktara is available in the form of tablets, granules, powder and suspension. Economical packaging makes it possible to rationally use the drug for treating small gardens on personal plots and large areas of industrial gardening. Insecticide cost:
Indications for use
The product is used for spraying vegetables, shrubs, trees, flowers, applying to the soil, treating tubers and vegetable seedlings before planting. Thiamethoxam is highly soluble, absorbed by plants both from the leaves and from the soil, but does not accumulate in the soil, but disintegrates in it.
The drug Aktara is used against the Colorado potato beetle, wireworms, scale insects and false scale insects, thrips, whiteflies, and in potted flowers - against soil flies and fungus gnats.
Aktaru is used against aphids on flowers and currants. As for the use of this drug against spider mites, it is ineffective in this case, since it is an insecticide and not an acaricide. On indoor flowers, Aktar is also used against mealybugs.
The granules are used on grapes, eggplants, pears, cabbage, peppers, cucumbers, onions, potatoes, apple trees, flowers, roses, tomatoes and currants. The suspension is used on grapes, potatoes, apple trees, currants, pears, and potted flowers.
Feedback on using Aktara
- Angelina, St. Petersburg: “I am an experienced gardener, and if earlier there were only phalaenopsis on my windowsill, today they have almost been replaced by cattleyas, cymbidiums, cambria and even one carrot (catasetum). “Everything has happened over these 13 years, but Aktara has always saved me, so don’t be afraid of these scale insects and thrips - everything can be treated, unlike bacterial rot, which affects plants from time to time.”
- Alexander, Stavropol: “We go to the dacha, like a resort, with great pleasure. Barbecue, gazebo, long conversations in the apple orchard, but also potatoes, where would we be without them. Previously, the harvest was poorer, mole crickets and slugs devoured a lot, and the beetle also made its contribution. A friend recommended Aktar (we soak the tubers before planting and spray twice during the entire period) - no more visible damage was encountered.”
- Olga, Cherepovets: “I got used to using Aktara both on my violets against midges and in the garden (tomatoes, cabbage, bulbs). To be honest, it helped more before, but my friends say that I just overdid it and needed a break. Well, I will comply.”
The Swiss drug has proven itself in the fight against insect pests of garden, vegetable and ornamental plants. Aktara is compatible with most insecticides, fungicides and growth regulators, and can be used both for treating planting material and during the active growing season.
Preparation and processing
The drug is diluted in accordance with the tables specified in the instructions. Consistency and correct execution of actions increases the level of effectiveness of the drug in pest control.
Preparation of the solution
Procedure: first pour the ampoule or the required amount of the drug into 1 liter of water and mix. This will be the mother liquor. Then dilute Aktar to a working solution by pouring it into a container with the amount of water required according to the instructions.
Processing of various types of crops
Potatoes are treated against beetles once during the growing season, the consumption rate of the drug is 1 ml per 8 liters. For potatoes per 100 sq. m usually consumes 5 liters of solution. It is allowed to spray the bushes no later than 3 weeks before digging up the tubers.
Instructions for use of Aktara provide for its use for fruit trees, in particular for apple trees against flower beetles, leafhoppers and copperheads. The grapes are treated with a solution of 4 ml per 1 liter. It is advisable to use the Aktara insecticide for currants. It is used to treat aphids: spill the soil under the bush with 1-1.5 liters per specimen (a solution of water-dispersible granules 2 g per 10 liters, a suspension concentrate will require 2 ml per 10 liters). Currants are sprayed against aphids before flowering (waiting period - 2 months) and, if necessary, after harvesting the berries.
Aktar for indoor plants is used by pouring soil in pots. To combat soil flies and fungus gnats, use a concentration of 1 g per 10 l, consumption - 6 l per 6 square meters. m or about 150 pots. According to the instructions for use for indoor plants, their treatment is prohibited when flowering occurs. You can treat orchids, violets and roses with Aktara. These plants protect against scale insects, aphids, whiteflies, and thrips. The solution is prepared from 8 g per 10 l. The soil under the plants is watered, and when pests appear, spraying is done. To treat plants with a suspension concentrate, you will need to prepare a solution: 1 ml per 10 liters of water.
Aktara is also used to treat planting potatoes and seeds before sowing. The seeds are soaked, and the tubers are sprayed with a liquid of 6 g of granules per 0.3 liter of water. Garlic sets and planting cloves are soaked in the same solution.
Application for seedlings: before planting, it is treated in a solution of 1 g per 1 liter, for which its roots are dipped into this liquid for 2 hours 0.5 days before planting.

Which drug to choose
If you look in stores, you can find many different drugs for killing bedbugs. The consumer faces a serious task - he must purchase the most effective drug , so that later he does not have to turn to professionals or go to the store again to buy another insect repellent, if suddenly the old one turns out to be powerless. You shouldn’t immediately rush to buy “Lambda Zone” for bedbugs. The first step is to choose the appropriate form of release of the drug. Based on this feature, all insect chemicals can be divided into several types:
- Liquid emulsions. Before use, the product is diluted in water to obtain a solution. They treat all surfaces in the room. Drugs in this form of release are most popular due to their high effectiveness. With their help, you can get rid of bed bugs very quickly. Another advantage of this form of release is the ease of application. Usually these products come with a spray bottle. The only disadvantage we can note is the presence of an unpleasant odor, but this is present in all modern insecticides today.
- Aerosols. Preparations of this type act on the same principle as emulsion solutions. The only difference between them is that insecticides in the form of aerosols do not need to be prepared before using them at home. After purchasing insect repellent in a store, the owner will only have to prepare the apartment for treatment and spray the product, following safety regulations. In most cases, the contents of one can are enough to treat the entire apartment. After treatment, you need to ventilate the apartment to remove the unpleasant odor.
- Dusts. On sale you can find special types of insecticides that have the form of powder - dusts. They are scattered by hand over all horizontal surfaces. When the powder gets on the body of an insect, the active substance causes its rapid death, but this does not happen immediately, so the insect manages to infect several relatives before its death. Compared to liquid emulsions, dusts are not as effective, so it is best to use them against bedbugs at the very beginning of infection. They can also be used to prevent their reappearance. There are special powders on sale that are completely odorless. However, when using most dusts, you still have to ventilate the room after treatment.
- Microencapsulated drugs. Microencapsulated preparations are considered the most effective in the fight against bedbugs. Their action is ensured by the active substance contained in the microcapsules of the drug. It can remain on the treated surface for a long time without causing any harm to the health of humans and pets. As soon as a bug runs across the treated surface, it immediately becomes infected with the active substance. After a while, when it returns to the nest, the bug infects its relatives, and this makes it possible to very quickly destroy the entire population of insects. Unlike emulsions and aerosols, microcapsules do not have an unpleasant odor.
- Pencils. Insecticidal chalk can help get rid of bed bugs at home. They operate on the same principle as dusts. Using a pencil, lines are drawn in places where bloodsuckers are likely to climb. Such crayons can also be used to prevent re-infection. The advantage of pencils is that most of them do not have an unpleasant odor.
When choosing a means to kill bedbugs, even if it is Lambda Zone, Aktar or Super Fas , you must first take into account the scale of the area that needs treatment and the degree of infestation. Aerosols and liquid emulsions are better suited for a large apartment, and also if bedbugs have been living in your house for a long time and have managed to establish a large population.
Chalks and dusts are recommended for use against small numbers of parasites or in small apartments. This way you can save on purchasing them. Microencapsulated drugs have a wide spectrum of action. They are suitable for both cases if it is important for you to guarantee a reduction in the insect population in a short time.
Emulsion "Tetrix"
Having tried a lot of different drugs against bedbugs, the owners eventually turn to the drug “Tetrix”, which for them becomes a real panacea . Experts recommend using this remedy to remove bedbugs only if all other drugs have failed. This recommendation is given for the following reasons:
- The drug "Tetrix" is quite an expensive product, unlike other known insecticides.
- If you violate safety rules, you risk causing serious harm to the health of people and pets. When cleaning an apartment, you must wear a protective suit and rubber gloves. It won’t hurt to put on glasses and a respirator before spraying to protect your lungs from the pungent odor.
"Tetrix" is offered for sale in plastic, glass and metal packages with a capacity of 250 ml, 1 l and 5 l. To treat a large three-room apartment, the smallest bottle will be enough for you. The main problem for you will be to find this drug. Because it is a fairly expensive product with low demand, most specialty and department store hardware stores do not sell it.
Powder "Karbofos"
Before using it, you must prepare a solution for spraying . Karbofos has repeatedly confirmed the highest efficiency in its price range. As a rule, it is enough to carry out two treatments to destroy all parasites at home.
This remedy has a very strong destructive effect on the nervous system of insects, which causes paralysis and subsequently inevitable death. For karbofos to work, the insect must touch the drug or inhale its vapor. The only downside of karbofos is that it has a sharp, specific odor, but it can easily disappear in a few hours.
Microencapsulated "Microfos"
Among modern drugs against bedbugs, the rather effective microencapsulated drug “Mikrofos” . This is a universal remedy that can be used to combat any household insects. After surface treatment, microcapsules remain on them, which stick to the body of insects if they run over the treated surface. Subsequently, from one insect the entire colony of parasites is charged, after a while paralysis occurs, followed by inevitable death.
The Mikrofos product is available for sale in 1 liter containers . One package costs about 2 thousand rubles. This volume is enough to process a large apartment several times. If necessary, Mikrofos can be used to treat several apartments at once, if you agree with your neighbors to jointly fight parasites. But keep in mind that the active substances contained in this product are very toxic, so the treatment must be carried out in protective clothing:
- respirator;
- glasses;
- gloves;
- protective suit.
First aid for poisoning
If after treatment you feel nausea, vomiting or general weakness, you should definitely call an ambulance:
- Before medical professionals arrive, take the victim out into the fresh air.
- When the drug gets on the skin, treat the area with cotton wool or a natural cloth (make soaking movements). Next, rinse with plenty of running water.
- When the product gets into your eyes, rinse them only with running water open for 10 minutes.
- When the granule has been swallowed and the victim is still conscious, give him activated carbon at the rate of 1 tablet per 10 kg of body weight. You must also induce vomiting. When the victim is unconscious, do not induce vomiting under any circumstances.
