Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

Aerosol Para Plus is a combination drug used to treat head lice (infestation of the scalp with lice

The pharmacological effectiveness of the drug is manifested due to the insecticidal effect of its active ingredients, where malathion acts as an organophosphorus insecticide , permethrin is a neurotoxic anti-insect poison , and piperonyl butoxide increases the effect of the latter.

Composition of the drug Para Plus

The drug is produced in the form of an aerosol in a 116 g container. with a sprayer. The liquid is presented in the form of an oily solution with a specific odor, not very strong. The solution is transparent, with a slightly yellowish tint. The spray contains three active substances with a powerful insecticidal effect:

  • Permethrin is a substance that has a negative effect on the nervous system of insects.
  • Malathion is an organophosphorus insecticide that affects the nerve structures of lice. The main advantage of this substance is its ability to influence not only adult insects and larvae, but also their eggs, called nits. Another, more well-known name for this substance is karbofos.
  • Piperonyl butoxide helps enhance the effects of permethrin, causing toxic effects on the nervous system, and also destroys the enzyme system of lice. It has a contact action, i.e. can act not only through the respiratory tract and intestines of insects, but also through their chitinous shell - it is enough for the drug to get on the insect’s body.

The composition contains isododecane and tetrafluoroethane (HFA propellant) as excipients.

    I never thought that this could happen to me. I picked up lice at a hairdresser, where I went for quite a long time - apparently, the unscrupulous hairdresser did not disinfect the tool. I was shocked, even at the pharmacy I was ashamed to ask to recommend the drug. As a result, the seller recommended Para Plus. I thought that the process of using the product would be difficult, but this is not the case at all. I just applied the aerosol for 10 minutes, then washed it off and combed out the parasites. I repeated the procedure again to consolidate the effect. Thus, I was able to completely forget about this terrible problem.

Reviews about Para Plus

Judging by the number of comments, the problem of treating head lice remains quite acute, and pharmacies often recommend Para Plus aerosol to solve it, the reviews of which are quite varied from patients themselves.

For some people, this drug completely helped get rid of this unpleasant illness in all cases, for others it did not bring the expected relief, and for others it caused adverse reactions in the form of skin burns and damaged hair .

It is worth noting that side effects most often occurred in people who used the aerosol incorrectly (for longer than according to instructions) or in patients with hypersensitivity to its ingredients.

Also, the insufficient effectiveness of the drug may be associated with the treatment of only the patient’s head, without disinfecting his personal belongings and household items, through which re-infection can occur.

Based on the above, we can assume that if the drug is used correctly and all the doctor’s recommendations are followed, Para Plus will turn out to be a fairly effective drug and in most cases will help in the fight against head lice .

Before using the product, it is important to read the instructions. In accordance with it, contraindications for its use include:

  • age under 2.5 years;

How to use Para Plus

The spray is easy to use, but it is important to remember that all insecticidal products require a responsible approach and following the instructions.

  • There is no need to wash your hair before use, as the product is intended for use only on dry hair. The product is sprayed from a distance of 3-5 cm onto the scalp, without missing a single area, and then, sequentially treating strand by strand, over the entire length of the hair.
  • The amount of product required for thorough treatment depends on hair length and thickness. For very long and thick hair, it may well take the entire can of aerosol, but on average the package is enough for two treatments for medium-length hair and several treatments for short hair.
  • After treatment, you should not cover your head, as this creates a greenhouse effect and the drug can have a negative effect on the scalp.
  • Leave the product on for 10 minutes, then wash your hair using shampoo. The solution is washed off without any problems. To remove dead parasites and nits, you need to comb them out well. To do this, use fine head lice combs.

  • For pubic lice, apply the product to the pubis and hair in the groin area, avoiding contact of the drug on the mucous membranes of the genital organs, hold for 10 minutes, rinse with soap or shower gel.
  • If the infection is severe, then the treatment must be repeated after a week, since a very large amount may leave a certain number of live nits on the hair. Within a week, larvae will hatch from them, which will be destroyed by repeated use of the spray. This way you will be able to get rid of all parasites.

Composition and principle of action

The main components of Para Plus are:

  • permethrin;
  • piperonyl butoxide;
  • malathion

HFA 134a propellant and isododecane are used as additional substances. The combined action of the active components ensures the high effectiveness of the drug Para Plus, and parasites do not become accustomed to these substances.

The action of the product is based on blocking nerve impulses in blood-sucking insects, which ultimately causes paralysis and death. At the same time, small aerosol particles are able to penetrate inside the shell of nits, destroying them too.

Basic data

“Pair Plus” for lice and nits is available in the form of a spray contained in sealed metal containers. It is a clear oily liquid. The main active ingredients are three insecticides , which are strong individually, but together create a powerful synergistic effect that enhances the effect of each component.

Let's look at them in more detail:

  • Permethrin

This is a well-known insecticide, which is the main one in most pharmaceutical products. It has proven effective against lice as well as other small insects.

The main principle of its action is penetration through the chitin of an insect and damage to its nervous system, provoking paralysis of internal organs and breathing in particular. But permethrin by itself is not very effective against nits.

  • Peperonyl butoxide

This insecticide enhances the effect of pyrethroids, which include permethrin.

The enhancing effect manifests itself in accelerating the time of onset of paralysis. It is especially toxic to the digestive system.

  • Malathion (karbafos)

This poison is absorbed by the digestive system of insects and turns into malokoson, which is fatally toxic to them, affecting their nervous system.

Together, these substances not only kill not only lice, but also their eggs - nits. This is achieved due to the high penetrating effect; poisons enter the body not only through breathing, but also through the insect’s shell. Therefore, they attack eggs, bypassing their external protection.

Another advantage of “Pair Plus” is that it is harmless to humans . Its constituent substances are practically non-toxic to humans when used externally.
