“Prestige” from the Colorado potato beetle - instructions for use, processing time, harm

Purpose and composition of the drug Prestige

The beginning of the summer season makes most gardeners think about protecting vegetable crops from pests, of which there are many in nature. Potatoes are of greatest concern, since the most common organisms that negatively affect its growth and yield, in particular the Colorado potato beetle, are considered to be the most common.

There are many ways to combat harmful insects. These include traditional methods and strong chemical compounds, but the leading position is occupied by the remedy for the Colorado potato beetle, Prestige. The drug is used to treat tubers before planting in order to protect the plant and its future harvest.

Prestige belongs to the group of insectofungicides - it has a destructive effect on both pests and various fungal bacteria.

The composition of the product includes 2 substances:

  • pencycuron is a pesticide that has a detrimental effect on fungal bacteria and increases resistance to adverse environmental factors;
  • Imidacloprid is a short-acting insecticide that kills harmful insects.

The drug Prestige for Colorado beetles is available in the form of a concentrated solution that requires prior dilution in water.

Composition and dosage form

Protectant "Prestige, KS" is a two-component pesticide, contains IMIDACLOPRID , dosage 140 g/l. and PENCICURON , dosage 150g/l.

Chemical class - neonicotinoids + other substances.

The dosage form is suspension concentrate (CS). Packaged for agricultural production in 1 liter bottles. and 5 liter canisters, for the needs of private household plots in 20 ml dispensers. and bottles of 60 ml. and 150ml.

The registrant and manufacturer is German (Bayer CropScience AG). The drug is approved for use in the Russian Federation until September 17, 2029 (registration No. 019-01-2400-1).

Mechanism and principle of operation

“Prestige, KS” is a contact-intestinal pesticide by the method of penetration, and a protective pesticide by the nature of its action.

The principle of protective action is illustrated by the following slide.

The principle of protective action against pests of the disinfectant "Prestige, KS"

The mechanism of action of the drug is as follows:

a) Firstly, when protecting against insect pests, imidacloprid, entering the insect’s body, blocks the transmission of nerve impulses at the level of the postsynaptic membrane receptor.

The period of protective action against pests is regulated to 40-60 days after emergence.

It is important that it is characterized by high initial activity against pests. The first results are observed within a few hours after application.

b) Secondly, when protecting against potato diseases , pencicuron penetrates the plant cuticle and inhibits the germination of mycelium, affects the functional state of the cell and nucleus, inhibits the biosynthesis of sterol and free fatty acids inside the fungus, and significantly reduces the content of transport forms of glucose. This significantly helps to curb the development of plant diseases.

The period of protective action of the drug against rhizoctonia and potato scab is established throughout the entire growing season.

The drug "Prestige, KS" has an anti-stress effect, which increases the yield and quality of potatoes. The following slide illustrates these characteristics.

Composition and mechanism of action on the pest

The manufacturer of the Prestige disinfectant is the German chemical company Bayer CropScience. It is produced in the form of a concentrated emulsion, which is diluted with water in various proportions before use. It is packaged in bottles of 500, 150, 60 ml. For a small volume of potatoes, you can purchase a bag with 30 ml of the drug or a syringe with 6 ml.

The active ingredients in the insecticidal-fungicidal preparation Prestige are the insecticides imidacloprid and pencycuron. 1 liter of the drug contains 140 g of the first substance and 150 g of the second. Imidacloprid is a systemic pesticide of enteric contact action, which, when entering the body of insects, binds to acetylcholine receptors in the central nervous system, which leads to paralysis and death of pests. The substance does not accumulate in growing tubers, since it can only move throughout the plant from bottom to top, and not vice versa.

Pencykuron is a pesticide and contact fungicide that exhibits a long-term protective effect. The substance stops the germination of fungal mycelium, which protects it from disease. It does not penetrate into plants; it remains only on the tubers and in the soil around them.

Due to the complex insecticidal-fungicidal action, Prestige KS can be used not only against harmful insects, but also against pathogens of fungal diseases. It protects potatoes from larvae and adults of the May and Colorado potato beetles, aphids, flea beetles, thrips, moths, mole crickets, leafhoppers, and wireworms. This is a good protection against rhizoctonia, which manifests itself on plants and collected tubers, as well as various types of scab, septoria, wet rot, powdery mildew, and brown rust.

Prestige is used as a disinfectant for planting potato tubers just before planting them. The drug begins to act within 3-4 hours after application: its substances, upon contact with the soil, penetrate into it and surround the potatoes with a protective halo. Subsequently, they enter the plants not only from potatoes, but also through the roots, which contributes to their more uniform distribution in tissues. The protection of the drug lasts 40 days after treatment, that is, approximately until the end of potato flowering.

Features of the product

  1. Until the moment of disintegration, the active substance of the disinfectant reliably protects the planting material from pests and diseases.
  2. If you want to use this product in combination with growth stimulants, microelements or other pesticides, you must first conduct a compatibility test.
  3. “Prestige” from the Colorado potato beetle belongs to toxicity class III, and therefore is harmful to humans. Before performing any manipulations with the concentrated suspension, you should protect your skin, mucous membranes and respiratory tract by wearing personal protective equipment.
  4. The effectiveness of the drug will depend on the uniformity of its spraying and the continuity of the spray torch.
  5. The active substance begins to work from the moment of processing.

Toxicity

“Prestige” from the Colorado potato beetle has low toxicity, as it belongs to the third class, so it can cause some harm. To avoid health problems, the following is recommended:

  • processed tubers should be packaged in protective film before transportation;
  • when processing and planting, it is necessary to follow safety rules, using preventive protective equipment: gloves and a mask;
  • “Prestige” can be used to treat potato varieties harvested in August, since the active substance will leave the tubers only 2 months after treatment;
  • if you plan to plant potatoes in the third or fourth decade of April and the “Prestige” preparation will be used to process them, then you should choose mid-late or mid-early varieties.

Important! For early varieties of potatoes, which are harvested as early as June or July, it is highly undesirable to use the Prestige dressing agent! In such a short period of time, the poison will not have time to leave the treated tubers!

User reviews about the drug "Prestige"

Sergey Patashov (32 years old, production foreman, Tula region)

They started using “Prestige” in 2015. It was surprising that our neighbors’ potatoes grew a week earlier. For me, the beginning of June was accompanied by the beginning of the fight against the Colorado potato beetle; my mother, wife and children went out in the mornings and evenings to collect beetles. Later I treated the entire area with Corado or Tanrek. Only then did the appearance of beetles stop. Larvae were found until the last days before harvesting.

When the crop was harvested, many tubers were damaged by wireworms and beetles. In mid-July, the bushes were damaged by late blight; there was no point in even mowing them; they dried out on their own in the beds.

The very first use of “Prestige” turned out to be quite high-quality. I had to treat the Colorado potato beetle once only in mid-July. The bushes were green; no late blight was observed.

The dug up tubers had no traces of wireworms or beetles. I was pleased with the results of using the drug.

Tatyana Mikhailovna Kuznetsova (59 years old, salesperson, Tambov region)

I learned about “Prestige” from an advertisement on TV. At first I didn’t believe it, they often advertise a lot of unnecessary products there. I decided to buy it and bought vegetable seeds at the market. A saleswoman I knew suggested “Prestige”. She said that she gets a good harvest of potatoes, without the mustachioed beetle, and also without holes from the wireworm. Expensive, but I bought it anyway.

Last year, before planting, my son and I processed the potatoes. Sprayed with a spray bottle. At first I was scared by the red color, but then I decided that this was how it should be. I sowed potatoes.

All summer I didn’t know what the Colorado potato beetle was, only at the end of August it arrived. I collected it and decided not to spray it with poison before cleaning it. There were no traces of mole crickets or wireworms on the tubers. She sold part of the harvest in her store.

Now I will process it constantly. I liked Prestige.

How to prepare a working solution of Prestige insecticide?

To prepare a working solution based on the Prestige drug, you can only use a plastic container. According to the instructions, the concentrate must be diluted with water in a ratio of 1:10 and thoroughly mixed until a homogeneous composition is obtained. This concentration must be adhered to when processing tubers before planting, germination, and also to protect seedlings.

Advantages of Prestige insecticide

Various insecticides have been used in vegetable growing for a long time, but the appearance of Prestige has changed the traditional attitude of gardeners to such drugs.

Advantages:

  • low toxicity (Class III);
  • Frequent treatments are not required;
  • validity period – up to 40 days;
  • high efficiency against the Colorado potato beetle, as well as fungi and microbes;
  • acceleration of the process of photosynthesis, and therefore the development and growth of crops;
  • stability of the composition to light, moisture;
  • rapid penetration into plant tissue, causing them to become toxic to insects, but safe for humans.

Ephoria KS remedy against the Colorado potato beetle

The disinfectant is effective against a whole list of pests:

  • Colorado potato beetle (up to 40 days);
  • aphids (protects up to 35-40 days);
  • midges;
  • thrips;
  • sawflies (protection for the entire growing season);
  • wireworm (for the entire period);
  • pray.

Prestige also helps protect plants from diseases such as scab and rhizoctonia.

Among the “disadvantages” they note the rather high cost of the drug, but the costs are compensated by the results obtained. Among the analogues, Prestigitator is used - both for dressing tubers and for processing seedlings.

Disputes about the dangers of “Prestige”

Is it harmful to treat potatoes with this preparation? From the point of view of protection from all kinds of problems with diseases or insects, it is definitely useful (that is, effective). But there is no clear opinion about whether chemicals accumulate inside tubers and how long it takes to remove them. Thus, manufacturers (who, of course, benefit from their products being in demand among potential buyers) indicate that after processing, the active substances inside the tubers are stored for 2 months, after which they break down into components that are safe for our health and are gradually eliminated. In this case, the protective effect lasts up to 40 days.

The instructions for the drug say that it is a substance of toxicity class 3 (that is, moderately dangerous). But at the same time, after 90-120 days (which is the average growing season for potatoes), the toxic components are completely removed from the plants, and you can safely eat the tubers without fear of consequences. Even young potatoes, according to manufacturers, can be consumed 53 days after processing.

However, studies conducted in European countries that are members of the European Union give different, not so harmless results. According to them, imidocloprid breaks down in about 80–200 days (this depends on various factors). That is, it can be stored in tubers for up to 7 months! It follows that it is unsafe to treat early potato varieties with this disinfectant. And in general, it’s worth thinking about the balance of benefit and harm. Moreover, “Prestige” does not provide 100% protection for the entire growing season: additional treatments with other drugs will be needed after the stated 40 days have passed (and according to reviews from gardeners who have used “Prestige”, this period is often much shorter). The most pronounced effect will be only during the first few weeks. Then it gradually decreases; potato plantings may be attacked by pests or an outbreak of diseases.

In addition, one should not discount the fact that the cost of the disinfectant is quite high (approximately 400 rubles and more per package). Often the deciding factor when choosing disinfectants is the price. Much more often this drug is purchased for use in large volumes (for example, farms).

Do not eat new potatoes treated with Prestige: many gardeners note that they have a strange taste, and after cooking they turn dark after a while. That is, harmful chemicals have not yet had time to be removed from it. Therefore, it is prudent to use tubers only after the end of the potato growing season.

Instructions for use

The drug Prestige is used to treat tubers before planting, before germination, as well as to protect seedlings of plants of the nightshade family. It is necessary to observe the dosage and consumption rates of the product in order to prevent an excess of chemical components in vegetables.

Pre-planting treatment

In the list of agrotechnical measures to protect potatoes from pests, pre-sowing disinfection of tubers is especially highlighted, which allows you to destroy possible infectious agents and increase the immunity of the crop.

But the effect is achieved only with an integrated approach, so dressing does not exclude subsequent procedures for the prevention of late blight, Alternaria, and Fusarium.

Stages of work:

  • pour 3 liters of water into the sprayer tank;
  • add 50 ml of suspension concentrate;
  • stir;
  • lay out the potatoes on film or dense material in one layer;
  • spray the tubers with the tank mixture on one side;
  • wait until dry, turn over;
  • process the potatoes on the other side.

It is necessary to ensure that the mixture completely covers the potatoes. Treated tubers are not cut before planting. This amount of solution is enough to disinfect approximately 50 kg of potatoes.

Treatment before germination

The insecticide has proven itself well when treating potatoes before germination. To do this, seed tubers intended for planting are taken out of storage (cellar, basement) in advance (20-25 days), placed on film and sprayed on all sides with the prepared solution.

Proportions: stir 50 ml of product into 0.6 liters of water. Spray from a spray bottle, wait until dry and then place in boxes for germination. It is allowed to spray potatoes simultaneously with Prestige with other preparations, including growth stimulants.

Seedling protection

Prestige has shown itself well in the treatment of garden crops grown as seedlings. The Colorado potato beetle is dangerous not only for potatoes, it causes enormous harm to peppers, tomatoes, and eggplants.

For protection, use an insecticide by soaking plant roots in the solution:

  • 10 ml of product is diluted in a liter of water;
  • stir;
  • pour into a wide container (for example, a basin);
  • dip the seedlings with their roots into the solution;
  • stand for 7-8 hours;
  • seedlings are planted in beds or shelters in a permanent place.

Prestige is used to treat the root system of berry bushes and fruit crops. This will protect plants from leaf-eating insects, soil parasites, and flukes.

How to process:

  • prepare a special “mash” from clay (0.8 kg), a liter of water and 0.8 kg of compost or humus;
  • dilute 20 ml of Prestige in a liter of water;
  • add the prepared solution to the “mixture” and mix;
  • Dip the roots of the seedlings into the mixture.

This amount of mixture is enough to protect 30-40 bushes.

It is advisable to plant treated tubers and plants in the ground immediately, without delay. Otherwise, the effect of toxic components will be reduced.

Terms of use

According to the instructions, “Prestige” for the Colorado potato beetle can be used to treat tubers before germination, immediately before planting, and also to protect seedlings.

Let's look at each option in more detail.

Pre-planting treatment

Dressing of tubers is an important part of measures aimed at protecting potatoes from pests and diseases. Thanks to this operation, the infection on the tubers is destroyed and the potatoes receive reliable protection from the action of microorganisms throughout the entire germination period

  1. Prepare a working solution from 50 ml of concentrated suspension and 2.5-3 liters of water. This amount is enough for 50 kg of potatoes.
  2. For treatment, use a canister sprayer, backpack sprayer or household sprayer.
  3. Spread the seed material on a film or sheet of roofing felt; its layer should not be higher than 2-3 tubers.
  4. Spray the preparation onto the tubers, with each tuber covered by at least ¾ of the solution. To increase efficiency, after complete drying, each tuber can be turned over and the treatment repeated on the other side.

Treatment before germination

"Prestige" can be used before sprouting tubers. In this case, processing is carried out in advance - 15-20 days.

  1. The working solution is prepared from 30 ml of suspension and 600 ml of water.
  2. Using a spray bottle, the solution is sprayed onto the tubers and left for some time until completely dry.
  3. The treated potatoes are placed for germination and treated with the same solution again before planting.

Seedling protection

As you know, the Colorado potato beetle attacks not only potatoes, but also other crops such as tomatoes, eggplants, cabbage and sweet peppers. The Prestige disinfectant can also be used to protect them.

  1. Prepare a working solution from 10 ml of concentrate and 1 liter of water.
  2. Dip the roots of the seedlings into the prepared product and leave for 8 hours.
  3. After the specified time, the seedlings should be immediately planted in the ground.

Harm of the drug Prestige

Of course, summer residents are interested in the question of whether there is any harm from Prestige from the Colorado potato beetle. It can be noted here that no toxic substances are observed in the crop, in other words, in the tubers, already 50 days after treatment. During this period, the molecules of the product dissolve in the soil, and the remaining drug is neutralized. Accordingly, potatoes are safe to eat.

The decay period of toxic substances of the Prestige drug is 40-50 days, so early varieties of potatoes cannot be treated with the product!

Since the drug is a toxic substance, pre-planting treatment of tubers should be carried out wearing a mask, safety glasses and preferably in a special gown or suit. The procedure must be carried out outdoors.

After finishing spraying, you should take a shower and wash your clothes.

Prestige against Colorado potato beetles is truly considered one of the best options for combating all kinds of pests. The drug is harmless, and the degree of its protective functions is quite high. Before using the composition, you should carefully read the instructions and act in accordance with its instructions.

Instructions for using the drug "Prestige" for treating seed tubers

Gardeners are plagued by pests that try to ruin the potato harvest:

  • potato seedlings are attacked by Colorado potato beetles, their larvae can completely destroy the plant, eating it from top to bottom;
  • May beetle larvae gnaw out huge lacerations in tubers and reduce quality;
  • mole crickets do not lag behind the beetles, they also like to harm vegetable growers in all possible ways;
  • wireworms are trying to make their noticeable mark; some potatoes may be riddled with long passages. Click beetle larvae turn commercial potatoes into pet food; no one wants to buy holey tubers;
  • thrips are a rather dangerous enemy that tries to destroy any plant, destroying the above-ground part;
  • aphids and flea beetles are not far behind the others; they certainly want to add trouble to the gardener;
  • fungi (scab and rhizoctonia) bring their share of troubles, trying to destroy potatoes during cultivation.

So many different sophisticated enemies. They will definitely begin their activities if you do not fight them.

There is a universal remedy that will help prevent the spread of potato enemies. It will protect the seed long before the tubers enter the soil. This is the drug "Prestige", manufactured at Bayer CropScience in Germany.

Precautionary measures

The drug "Prestige" is quite toxic, so it can harm human health. If you follow a number of rules when using it, you will be able to avoid the negative effects of this chemical on the human body. For example:

  1. It is necessary to take care to protect the skin, eyes and respiratory organs, using thick clothing, rubber gloves and a respirator.
  2. During the process of planting potatoes, it is forbidden to drink, smoke, and, especially, eat.
  3. At the end of the work, take off your clothes and put them in the wash, and take a shower and rinse your mouth.

It is important to know! It is better to place the treated planting material in plastic bags for transportation.

Children should not be involved in planting potatoes and should not be allowed into their place of work, as well as pets. If poison gets on the skin, and even more so on the mucous membranes, it is necessary to immediately rinse the affected area thoroughly with clean running water. If negative symptoms occur, such as headache, dizziness, nausea or vomiting, it is better to seek help from specialists.

If you do not ignore precautions, it is simply impossible to get poisoned with the Prestige product. The toxic components that make up Prestige completely disintegrate within 50 days, so they cannot harm human health.

Security and restrictions

Hazard class for humans – class 3.

The waiting period before harvesting is 60 days.

Potato processing methods and technology

When using Prestige, you must strictly follow the manufacturer's instructions. For areas with a large amount of wireworms, the solution is made in the maximum permissible concentration.

According to the manufacturer's instructions, Prestige can be used both for treating tubers before germination, and for pre-planting treatment and protecting the root system of seedlings. In all cases, the product should be diluted immediately before use and stirred thoroughly. The prepared solution cannot be stored.

Always follow the necessary safety precautions when working with the drug.

Since the drug is toxic, standard precautions must be observed when preparing the liquid and subsequent handling:

  • Prepare the working fluid and carry out the processing itself outside (at least in a well-ventilated room).
  • Hold the event in calm and cloudy weather.
  • Work only with gloves.
  • Clothing should cover all parts of the body as tightly as possible.
  • Protect your face with a mask or respirator, and be sure to wear a hat.
  • Do not drink, smoke or eat during the event.
  • After the treatment is completed, take a shower and change clothes. Wash the clothes you were wearing.

If the product comes into contact with the skin, eyes or mucous membranes, immediately rinse the affected area with plenty of water. If the substance is ingested, take activated carbon (1 tablet per 10 kg of weight) or white clay tablets and seek medical help. The same must be done if you notice symptoms of poisoning (nausea and vomiting, dizziness and headache, rash).

The containers that you used for preparing the working fluid and spraying should be thoroughly washed and stored in a place where children and animals cannot reach them.

Treatment of tubers before germination

If you want to treat potatoes with Prestige before storing them for germination, you will need to carry out the following manipulations:

  1. Sort through the potato tubers, leaving only the healthiest and most regularly shaped ones as seed material. Ugly, disease-affected, too small (less than 30 grams) and too large (more than 90 grams) are not suitable for planting.
  2. Dry the potatoes prepared for sprouting thoroughly.
  3. Dilute 30 ml of Prestige in 600 ml of water and stir until completely dissolved.
  4. Spread the prepared tubers evenly on a sheet of roofing material or plastic film. The height of the layer is no more than three potatoes.
  5. Spray the potatoes with the prepared solution from a spray bottle so that each tuber is covered at least three-quarters with the substance.
  6. Wait until the potatoes are completely dry.

Each potato tuber must be covered with at least three quarters of the Prestige solution

Spraying is carried out approximately 10–15 days before planting for germination. Before planting the tubers in the ground, the dressing procedure is repeated.

Pre-planting treatment

Before planting, seed material must be processed as follows:

  1. Sprouted and slightly warmed tubers ahead of time are laid out on plastic film in the same way as in the previous method.
  2. Dilute 50 ml of Prestige in three liters of water and stir until completely dissolved.
  3. Spray the tubers evenly with the prepared solution so as to cover each by three quarters (if it is not possible to spread the planting material in a thin layer, wait until the potatoes dry, and then turn them over and spray them on the other side).
  4. Wait for it to dry completely and start planting.

Tubers should be sprayed two hours before planting in the ground. Planting material is delivered to the site in a bag - this procedure helps to destroy pathogenic microorganisms and increase protection during the growth period.

Carry out pre-planting treatment of potatoes with Prestige two hours before planting the tubers in the ground

Processing of seedlings

The drug Prestige can be used not only for treating potato tubers, but also for protecting other crops. In this case, dilute 10 ml of the product in a liter of water and stir until completely dissolved. The roots of the seedlings should be dipped into this solution and left there for 6–8 hours. After this, the young seedlings need to be removed and immediately, without waiting for drying, planted in a permanent place. The effect of Prestige begins from the moment of processing. The active components disintegrate within 30 days.

After soaking in the Prestige solution, young seedlings are immediately planted in the ground

How to store the drug

It is important to store chemical plant protection products correctly, and Prestige is no exception. The shelf life of the drug is 2 years. During this time, the components of the product do not lose their effectiveness, but for this you need to strictly follow the storage recommendations.

First of all, it is important to adhere to the temperature regime. The optimal range for the chemical is from -20 to +40 degrees. If you deviate from these indicators, Prestige may lose its effectiveness.

Despite the fact that the drug belongs to the third toxicity class and is considered relatively safe, it should not be stored near drinking water or food. It is also necessary to keep the product away from children, animals and flammable materials. All these requirements apply to the concentrate itself, and not to the working solution of the chemical. If you have prepared a mixture for processing, but have not used up all the liquid, it is not recommended to store it for the future. Firstly, the working solution will quickly lose effectiveness, and secondly, storing the chemical diluted in water can be potentially hazardous to health.

Release form and composition

The main active ingredient is penconazole, which contains nitrogen and chlorine atoms. It is characteristic that, unlike many other drugs, the substance does not form a film on the surface of the leaves and is quickly absorbed by plant tissues. The suspension has an inhibitory effect.

This feature allows crops to be processed under different weather conditions and in any climate. When spraying with Topaz, you do not need to wait for certain days to get maximum results.

The drug is produced in large containers (1 liter each) and in ampoules (2 ml). It is a concentrated liquid; when used, it is mixed in water according to the instructions.

Store away from food products, in places inaccessible to children and animals. It is advisable to use it in the first 2 years, since the concentration of the toxic element increases closer to the end of the period, then Topaz is disposed of.

The use of expired fungicide is prohibited due to severe toxicity.

Reviews

The debate about the dangers and benefits of the Prestige potato dressing does not subside. The only thing that remains undeniable is the effectiveness of the drug. On forums dedicated to growing vegetable crops, gardeners leave diametrically opposed reviews.

Vadim, Sarov: “I have been using the product for three years in a row and have not noticed any negative consequences for health or the environment. I studied in detail the mechanism of action of the active substances and the method of using the drug, talked with agronomists who convinced me of the absolute safety of the product. There is an apiary next to the garden, the bees are alive and well. I process the potatoes immediately before planting, leave them in the sun to dry completely, and then put them in the ground. The bushes do not suffer from anything, they grow strong and healthy.”

Igor, Vologda: “I don’t consider “Prestige” a panacea for all potato diseases, but it significantly reduces the risk of fungal infection, attack by the Colorado potato beetle and wireworm. I’d rather get a harvest commensurate with my labor costs than one undermined by larvae and beetles. All these herbal chatter and infusions do not bring the desired result, especially when the plantings take up not 2 acres, but much more.”

Varya, Mozhaisk: “I constantly hear rave reviews about the drug “Prestige”, but I’m afraid to try it myself. Recently I came across an article that provided information about the ban on imidacloprid in EU countries due to the extinction of bees. I am wary of any chemicals, I try not to use them to spray vegetables, because we then eat it all. And somehow it’s hard to believe the information from the manufacturer about the rapid disintegration of active substances. I am for environmentally friendly products."

Remedy for the Colorado potato beetle Prestige

Composition of the drug

The instructions for use indicate that this is a drug of the third class of toxicity, that is, it is considered moderately dangerous. The main active ingredients are imidacloprid (140 g/l) and pencycuron (150 g/l).

Imidacloprid has a destructive effect on insects by blocking nerve impulses at the level of membrane receptors. Its influence is primarily aimed at protecting the green part of the plant from gnawing and sucking insects, and it almost never gets into the tubers.

Pencykuron inhibits the germination of fungi and inhibits their supply of nutrients, stopping internal processes.

Both substances have a contact effect and are destroyed in 40-50 days. Therefore, the plant is protected from insects and fungi throughout its growth, but by the time the tubers are dug up, the harmful substances completely disintegrate. The manufacturer confidently indicates that eating potatoes treated with Prestige is completely safe for health. According to scientific research, no trace remains of the harmful substances that make up Prestige already on the 50th day after planting.

But many do not recommend using Prestige when growing early potato varieties, because toxic substances simply do not have time to decompose in such a short period. It is also better not to eat new potatoes treated with this drug.

Compatibility with other tools

Before using “Prestige” with other protection products - fungicides, insecticides, pesticides or plant growth stimulants, you should definitely check their compatibility. To do this, mix a small amount of both products and check for the presence of sediment. If it appears, then these drugs cannot be used at the same time.

During the period of mass planting, it is not always possible to find the drug “Prestige” on sale. Therefore, in order to protect plants from harmful insects, as well as pathogens of fungal diseases, you can use other chemicals with a similar effect.

Pests and fungal diseases are the main enemies of a good harvest. Therefore, using the “Prestige” insecticide according to the instructions allows you to achieve a positive result without any special difficulties. Ignoring waiting periods and manufacturer's recommendations for using the product can be harmful to health.

Description and principle of operation of the Prestige insecticide

"Prestige" is a concentrated suspension of a red hue. It contains two active components - pencicuron and imidacloprid, which provides comprehensive protection against harmful insects, as well as pathogens of fungal diseases. The drug also has an anti-stress effect, which improves potato germination, stimulates growth processes and forms additional ovaries.

Pencykuron belongs to the category of contact pesticides. This substance prevents the germination of the mycelium of pathogenic fungi and inhibits the biological processes within them. The duration of decomposition of pencycuron into harmless components is 40-50 days.

Imidacloprid is an insecticide that blocks the transmission of nerve impulses from the pest, which causes paralysis and further death. The substance is characterized by a moderate degree of toxicity, but its effect is lethal for warm-blooded insects.

The drug is activated immediately as soon as the treated tubers are planted in the ground. Moisture in the soil helps the active substances spread into the soil and thereby create a protective barrier around. During the period of active growth of green mass, they move upward and spread into all cells of the plant. This creates comprehensive protection against warm-blooded pests, powdery mildew, various types of rot, brown rust, and scab.
