Fire tincture - what is it?
Before using a folk remedy, you need to take into account what the bee moth is, which has become the “source material” for preparing the tincture.
This is a small pest also known as wax moth. The moth lives in beehives and feeds on their waste products. This is the only insect in nature that feeds on honey, beebread, royal jelly, honeycomb and propolis. It completely absorbs them and processes them into useful valuable substances.
A useful tincture is prepared from moth larvae, which contain an increased concentration of biologically active substances. They provide excellent anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antioxidant and immunomodulatory properties.
Manufacturing secrets
To make the infusion, large wax moth larvae that have not yet become pupae are used. These larvae feed only on bee waste products, mainly beeswax. They produce enzymes, thanks to which the larvae’s body easily breaks down and absorbs beeswax. No other creature is capable of this.
When making medicine from larvae, they are infused in a forty percent alcohol solution. The liquid has a light brown color and a pleasant protein-honey smell. Sediment may form, so the infusion should be shaken before use.
The composition includes essential amino acids that are necessary for the normal functioning of the human body.
Compound:
- valine;
- glycine;
- leucine;
- serine;
- alanine;
- lysine;
- aspartic, gamma-aminobutyric and glutamic acid.

Preparation of tinctures from fireweed
There are several ways to make fire at home. To prepare it, we use sedentary but young wax moth caterpillars up to 2 cm in size, which fully feed on beekeeping products and have not yet entered the pupation stage. It is during this period that the maximum amount of valuable components is concentrated in their body.
All larvae for tincture must be selected only by hand. They are collected from our own apiaries or purchased from trusted beekeepers. After this, the larvae should be filtered using two sieves. This will help separate the young larvae from the webs, honeycomb particles and old caterpillars.
To prepare bee moth tincture, you can only use glass or ceramic dishes. The larvae can be planted whole or crushed a little and only then filled with alcohol. This does not affect the healing properties of the extract.
Bee moth tincture recipes:
- To prepare a 10% tincture, pour 20 g of caterpillars with 200 ml of 70% alcohol in a glass container. Place to infuse in a dark place for 15-20 days, remembering to shake from time to time. Strain before use.
- For a 20% tincture, other proportions are used - 40 g of moth larvae and 200 ml of alcohol.
- For medicinal tincture, you can use not only the larvae themselves, but also their metabolic products. Sift the bee dust through a sieve, leaving only small black dots, fill them with 70% alcohol in a ratio of 10-20 g per 100 ml. Leave for 20 days in a dark place at room temperature, shaking daily.
To prepare the extract, larvae at the final stage of their development, immediately before pupation, are not used. At this time, they stop eating wax, as the production of food enzymes in their body decreases. At this stage, moth is considered useless for medicinal tinctures.
The prepared tincture should be stored only in the refrigerator, in a tightly sealed container; in heat, its beneficial properties decrease. If all conditions are met, the shelf life of the extract is 12 months.

The best way to use wax moth tincture ↑
Since the moth, one might say, grew up on bee products, the concentration of some chemical compounds in it is quite high, which sometimes causes allergic reactions. If an allergy to honey or propolis has already been diagnosed, then a recipe using a wax moth solution may not be suitable. Other contraindications mainly relate to individual intolerance, which is rare, but it is advisable to exclude it before use.
Treatments that involve the use of a tincture made from wax moth larvae are carried out in courses. There is a certain break between them, for example, taking it for 90 days and a 30-day break. This method is the most common and has good reviews regarding the results achieved.
There is a basic recipe, in relation to which the treatment is determined. The tincture is diluted with water according to weight, approximately 3 drops per 10 kg of weight. It is better to start with a solution and five drops, and only then increase the dose to the one that corresponds to the chosen method of treatment. For children, a smaller amount is recommended, approximately 1 drop per 12 kg of weight. It is better to dissolve the extract in water and take it 30-40 minutes before meals. Depending on the purpose, whether it is prevention or treatment, use it once a day or twice.
Bee moth or wax moth tincture goes well with other drugs, including pharmacological agents, the action of which is also aimed at treating a particular disease. It is not prohibited to enhance the effect by using honey, propolis or other bee products, and this method is often practiced.
The solution can be freely purchased at specialized outlets, but some try to make it at home. To do this, you need to find live wax moth larvae and follow the technology, but not everyone can cope with this, since even visually, this mixture does not look very nice, you can see the photo for reference. The best way is to purchase a ready-made tincture, the preparation of which is carried out in accordance with the basic rules and dosages.
