Chalk “Mashenka” for bedbugs: reviews, instructions for use

Insecticide composition

The chalk contains effective toxic substances and additional components:

  1. Deltamethrin 0.05% is a potent insecticide that destroys blood-sucking and gnawing insects. Once the parasite enters the body, it causes loss of coordination, paralysis and rapid death.
  2. Zeta-cypermethrin 0.1% is a chemical compound popular in the fight against small pests that has a neuroparalytic effect. This component is not addictive; in combination with deltamethrin, it enhances the toxic effect, leaving bedbugs no chance of survival.
  3. Gypsum and chalk are auxiliary substances that make it easy to apply and evenly distribute the product on various surfaces. The “Mashenka” pencil looks like an ordinary block of chalk. The product weighs 20 g and is sold in plastic film bags.

Is chalk against bedbugs and cockroaches “Mashenka” dangerous for humans?

If there are bedbugs in the house, the Mashenka chalk will help cope with the invasion of parasites. The insect will run along the line, the poison will remain on its paws, and then through the proboscis it will enter the gastrointestinal tract and be absorbed into the blood. The infected individual returns to its nest, the poison reaches all members of the colony, and they die.

Draw a solid block around the perimeter of the room. Bedbugs are not as mobile as cockroaches; they like to live close to a person’s sleeping place and do not travel long distances. Treat secluded places in furniture with powder or dilute the preparation with water to obtain a solution with a consistency reminiscent of liquid sour cream. Sprinkle or spray with this product in hard-to-reach cavities, places where traces of parasite activity are visible.

Wash bedding and all contents of cabinets and drawers at maximum temperature. If the fabric cannot be exposed to hot water, hang the items outside in winter to freeze. Remove clocks, paintings, and jewelry from the walls and chalk the back walls with chalk. Look where the wallpaper falls away from the structures; bedbug nests can often be found there. Treat all cracks and bubbles. Since the poison does not affect eggs, after 2 weeks repeat all work to combat parasites.

We cannot always choose clean neighbors for ourselves. If behind the wall there is dirt, disorder, insects run freely throughout the apartment, then soon they may move in with you.

For prevention, carefully treat all places where uninvited guests may appear:

  • window and door openings;
  • ventilation holes;
  • pipeline route locations;
  • area around sockets.

People working or working with pyrethrins and pyrethroids (including cypermethrin) sometimes develop tingling, burning, dizziness and itching.

How can I be exposed to Deltamethrin or Zeta-cypermethrin? Of course, the percentage of these substances in Mashenka chalk is very small, and you are unlikely to want to treat yourself to chalk, but touching the chalk with your bare hands or inhaling its fine dust while you are treating surfaces with it can negatively affect your well-being.

When these substances come into contact with the skin, they can cause a tingling, itching, burning or numbness sensation in the area. These sensations usually go away within 48 hours. However, any insecticides will cause irritation if they come into contact with the eyes. Inhalation of dust in which they are present can cause headaches and dizziness.

Although it is not common, there have been cases of people experiencing nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and muscle contractions after handling household insecticides. But you don’t need to be too scared: Deltamethrin and Zeta-cypermethrin in the Mashenka chalk have low toxicity when touched or inhaled.

Although children may be particularly sensitive to pesticides compared to adults, it is currently unknown whether children are particularly sensitive to Deltamethrin and Zeta-cypermethrin. However, studies in rats showed that young rats were more sensitive than older rats when they were both fed these insecticides.

Mashenka chalk can cause illness in dogs and cats if they eat it or lick the treated surface. It can cause vomiting, drooling, coordination and muscle tremors. If any amount of crumbled crayon accidentally gets on their skin, it can sometimes cause skin sensations that lead to biting, scratching, or licking the area touched by the substance.

In studies on animals that ate Mashenka chalk, it was found that chemical poisons were eliminated from the body within 2 days. In a rat study, Deltamethrin was poorly absorbed through the skin. The small amount that was absorbed through the skin left the body within 24 hours.

Operating principle

It is important to know how Mashenka chalk works against bedbugs. The active ingredients of the drug work as follows:

  • penetrating into the body of the bug through the legs and chitinous membranes, the active components cause a gradual blocking of nerve impulses;
  • the insect develops “panic” and a painful reaction to the insecticide;
  • actively moving among its relatives, frightened by the action of the poison, the parasite contributes to its further spread.

An infectious blood-sucking individual quickly spreads poison among the representatives of the bedbug colony. The advantage of this principle of operation is obvious - even after a small number of parasites get into the area where the chalk is applied, the rest die from contact with them.

It is important to remember that the effect of the drug develops gradually, over 5 days. During this period, the active substances of the product accumulate in the body of the parasites, after which their death becomes inevitable. The poisonous effect of the product also extends to the larvae - the new generation of bloodsuckers is destroyed along with their older brothers.

The applied chalk stripes remain for a long time, because... little exposed to external factors. If the treated areas are difficult to reach, the insecticide continues to work for a whole month.

Good to know. Chalk "Mashenka" works flawlessly on bedbugs - 70-80% of insects can be destroyed within one week. In the next 10-12 days, hatched individuals and surviving adult specimens die.

Application options

The chalk does not have to be used in its original pencil form. It can also be crushed and dissolved in water, and then spray the resulting solution with a spray bottle, similar to how sprays and aerosols are used.

In this capacity, it can be used not only in an apartment or country house, but also in the garden and in the garden for treating plantings. Here, Mashenka’s ability not to accumulate in fruits and leaves and its extremely low toxicity will play a positive role. Simply crushed chalk can be used similarly to powdered insect repellents from other manufacturers.

Based on the totality of its characteristics, it can be considered that today “Mashenka” chalk is the optimal choice for fighting insects with relatively small sizes of their population.

Price of bedbug repellent

The cost of the Mashenka insecticide varies slightly. Approximate product price:

  1. In household goods stores - 25-40 rubles.
  2. In online stores - from 9 rubles.

Often in markets, online resources or in hardware stores you can find another type of insecticide called “Silver Mashenka”. The instructions for this product and its composition are completely identical to the previous product. However, the cost of such a pencil is traditionally somewhat higher - in the range of 39-50 rubles.

General description and composition

Crayons against cockroaches seem like something old and long forgotten. But specifically, Mashenka’s products try to match the effectiveness of modern types of insecticides. Success has been variable, with many users reporting low or even no effectiveness.

The composition of the product is constantly changing, as almost every year the manufacturer makes adjustments to improve the effectiveness of the chalk. Specifically, different components are combined to prevent cockroaches from developing resistance.

Crayons are highly effective only in combination with other insecticides in the form of a solution or aerosol

The composition of Mashenka today:

  • deltamethrin is the main active ingredient, an insecticide with enteric contact action, affects the nervous system of insects;
  • cypermethrin is another main active ingredient, an insecticide of the pyrethroid group;
  • chalk filler, which is the shell of the product.

A combination of 2 insecticides can both improve the effectiveness of the chalk and reduce the likelihood of cockroaches developing resistance. The fact is that the likelihood of developing immunity to one insecticide is very small, and to two at the same time is almost zero.

The average cost of Mashenka crayons is 15-40 rubles per 1 chalk, which is enough to fully process a typical room in an apartment. You can purchase the product in household chemicals and insecticidal/disinfestation stores.

How does Mashenka’s chalk act on insects, and does it help? (+video)

Mashenka pencils have a contact-intestinal effect. This means that after the insect comes into contact with the product, infection occurs with gradual damage to the parasite’s nervous system. The death of the insect occurs after 3-8 hours.

Before dying, the parasite manages to infect its relatives. One cockroach is capable of transmitting the toxin to approximately 20-25 individuals, which in turn infect the remaining colony. As a result, the entire colony dies in about 2-3 weeks.

This is only true if the pencil actually worked. Users note that in rooms densely populated by cockroaches, Mashenka has practically no effect and there is a need to use more powerful insecticides.

Is the product dangerous for humans and pets?

With standard use of Mashenka crayons, the manufacturer guarantees complete safety for the health of people or pets. If you simply apply the product like regular chalk (draw lines), you won’t even need to use personal protective equipment.

The only thing is that minor intoxication of pets is possible if they decide to lick the chalk mark on the floor. Therefore, it is recommended to treat the premises in places where pets do not have access.

The chalk itself has a specific smell that is not felt by humans, but is easily perceptible by animals. This is a very repulsive smell and therefore in most cases animals avoid it, but there is still a chance that the pet will come into contact with the pencil.

Advantages and disadvantages

The product “Mashenka” does not spread in the air, due to which it has low toxicity for humans and pets.

The insecticide has no specific odor and does not cause negative reactions in people prone to allergies.

Other benefits are:

  • reliable and long-term fixation on the treated surface;
  • no traces, easy to remove during cleaning;
  • economical consumption - one chalk is enough to renovate a small apartment;
  • no need to carry out preliminary preparation of the room (the process of applying the product can be started at any convenient time);
  • inability to develop immunity to the constituent ingredients of the product;
  • affordable cost combined with trouble-free action against bedbugs;
  • effective prevention of the appearance of blood-sucking parasites in the future.

There is no need to leave the apartment during treatment, and after the procedure there is no need to ventilate the room for a long time. Traces from using a pencil are easily washed off from treated surfaces. This product can be stored at different temperatures (from −30 to +400 degrees).

Remedy for bedbugs "Mashenka"

Some users consider the disadvantage of the pencil to be the lack of immediate results - it often takes at least 7 days to destroy the entire colony of parasites. In addition, it is not recommended to use the product if there are young (“crawling”) children living in the house. By touching the chalk lines and putting the product in your mouth, your baby can get seriously poisoned.

It should be taken into account. The drug becomes ineffective when the home is massively colonized by parasites. In this case, it is recommended to use it together with other insecticides.

Preparing the room for processing

It should be understood that the use of chalk can affect insects if there are not very many of them. Mashenka chalk against bedbugs should be purchased at the first sign of insects appearing in the house. And if there are already too many of them, then it is better to purchase more powerful effective remedies for bedbugs or call a special service.

Chalk Mashenka

You should first prepare the room:

  • remove unnecessary items from the treated area and remove children and pets;
  • remove food;
  • Wash bed linen in hot water, wash dishes well;
  • move furniture and devices that use electricity away from the walls;
  • It is recommended to wash windows and vents, as well as door frames, with a bleach solution, then wait until everything dries.

Instructions for use

Before you start processing, you should figure out how to use Mashenka chalk. The algorithm for using a pencil is simple. During the rehabilitation process you will need:

  1. Wearing gloves, remove the product from the packaging.
  2. Holding the chalk at the bottom, draw wide circular lines along the entire perimeter of the room. Floors, baseboards, the bottom of walls, the back surface of carpeting, bed frames, the bottom of mattresses, areas with loose wallpaper, closets with clothes, and paintings must be treated.
  3. For disinfestation of hard-to-reach places, Mashenka is used in the form of a solution or powder. You can distribute the product using a spray bottle or a wide brush (it is important to avoid getting the product into the eyes and mucous membranes). To prepare a composition for wet surface cleaning, the chalk is dissolved in a small amount of water until a creamy mass is obtained.

For more effective pest control, you will need to disassemble all the furniture in the house.

Re-processing with a pencil is not necessary, because the principle of its action assumes long-term effectiveness (for 30 days). After this period, the room is wet cleaned with soap and soda solution, upholstered furniture and carpets are vacuumed, mattresses are beaten out and ventilated.

Despite the lack of toxic effects of the product on the human body, disinfestation should be done while wearing a medical mask. If a powder or solution was used, after treatment it is necessary to thoroughly ventilate the room, wipe door handles, table surfaces, and wash your hands and face with soap.

Note! If bedbugs are present in neighboring rooms, preventive treatment of the apartment should be carried out. In this case, the chalk is applied in less dense and wide lines to the threshold, ventilation holes, and cracks around heating systems.

Mashenka for cockroaches: application

Despite the different form of release and method of use, granules and Mashenka chalk act on pests according to the same principle, provoking the same disorders of nervous processes in the organisms of parasites.

Chalk Mashenka

Chalk Mashenka is designed for independent household use, however, it is often used by specialists of some sanitary services as an additional barrier protection when carrying out professional treatments with insecticidal fog.

  • Wear household gloves.
  • Open the package with scissors and pull out the crayon without removing the plastic completely.
  • Draw 2-4cm wide chalk stripes in places where you often see insects.
  • When dealing with cockroaches, the most suitable areas to apply the product are along baseboards and door frames, behind furniture, under window sills and along window frames, around vents, on the back of furniture, in areas near pipes, in joints inside cabinets and cabinets, near the garbage can, around stoves, under sinks, bathtubs and kitchen sinks.
  • The chalk stripes should be left for 2-3 weeks.
  • After this time has expired, the lines must be washed off using a soap-soda solution or any cleaning agent and water.

Chalk Mashenka has a contact-intestinal effect and, like other insecticides of the pyrethroid group, poisons those cockroaches that come into contact with the poison.
The stripes he draws do not become boundaries that pests cannot cross. The shape of the chalk only makes the use of the drug more convenient. Granules

Mashenka granules against cockroaches are a universal remedy; their use is permissible at objects of any purpose, from residential premises to industrial and food enterprises.

  • Wear rubber gloves.
  • Prepare the substrates on which you will place the granules; they can be cardboard, plastic, polyethylene, or commercial closed houses designed specifically for placing baits.
  • If the number of cockroaches is small, about 100 milligrams of granules are placed on each substrate; if there are many insects, from 200 to 300 milligrams.
  • Place the substrates in places where you often see clusters of cockroaches or running individuals.
  • Place baits at the rate of 3–5 substrates for every 10 square meters.
  • Insects will begin to die near and directly on the substrates after 2-3 days.
  • The remains of pests must be removed by adding new granules to the substrates to the original volume as needed.

Both chalk and granules should not be used near food, utensils, or pet food.
Products must not get into water or sewage drains. Do not use medications where they can be easily reached by small children, cats, dogs, or other pets. These recommendations for use are provided here for your reference. The full text of the instructions is contained on the packaging of the products you purchased and in the instructions for the drugs No. 009/01 dated November 23, 2005 (for chalk) and No. 015/15 dated February 20, 2015 (for granules).

Recommendations for use of the drug

According to the instructions for use of Mashenka, the chalk can be used to kill a number of insects. But in order for the treatment to be as effective as possible, you need to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations.

How to use to kill cockroaches?

Chalk Mashenka from cockroaches is easy to use. All processing comes down to the fact that it is necessary to carefully outline with it all the secluded places in the room where the Prussians can be or move.

The insecticide should be applied in the following places:

  • on the back walls of cabinets, baseboards;
  • if possible, to hard-to-reach places;
  • around the trash can;
  • near switches, sockets;
  • for batteries;
  • around pipe entries in the toilet, bathroom, kitchen;
  • along the perimeter of entrance doors, window slopes;
  • around the sink, ventilation hatches;
  • near the refrigerator, microwave, gas stove.

Principle of use

Attention! To effectively influence cockroaches with a Mashenka pencil, you need to make solid thick lines or circles, the width of which should not be less than 2 cm. This will allow the product to remain on the surface for a long time.

The first result after treatment can be seen after 4-5 days. And the maximum effect is achieved after 2 weeks. If necessary, the lines can be left for a longer period, but they must be updated regularly. In this case, the drug helps to destroy the young animals that appear during this time.

Mashenka chalk for bedbugs

You can use chalk not only against cockroaches, but also against bedbugs. To destroy parasites, it is necessary to draw thick lines on the back of cabinets, on the backs and frames of sofas, beds, on the back of paintings and photographs on the wall, near sockets, window sills, in window and door openings.

Mashenka chalk can also be used in powder form against bedbugs. To do this, you need to grind it and pour the product into the cracks on the wall, behind the baseboards, and into the folds of upholstered furniture.

The use of this insecticide in the form of a solution is also effective. To do this, you will need to first grind the chalk to a powder consistency, and then add water to get a suspension that resembles sour cream in composition. Apply the solution with a brush to baseboards, in cracks, and also treat all non-absorbent surfaces where bedbugs are likely to hide.

Does it help against ants?

Mashenka's ant repellent should be used in combination with gels. To destroy insects, it is necessary to draw thick lines in the places where they move. If an anthill forms in cracks or behind the baseboard, you need to grind the pencils to a powder consistency and pour them into hard-to-reach places.

The protective effect of Mashenka chalk against ants lasts for 7 weeks, and then the lines should be renewed if necessary.

Treating your apartment for fleas

This product can also be used to kill fleas in an apartment. But in order for the processing to produce results, it is necessary to carry out preliminary preparation. Initially, parasites in your pet should be poisoned with special targeted drugs. Then vacuum soft toys, furniture and carpets, and when finished, sprinkle the filter with crushed Mashenka chalk until it reaches a powder consistency.

Dead fleas

Then you should use an insecticidal pencil to apply greasy streaks on the baseboards, floors and walls. Additionally, it is advisable to sprinkle crushed chalk on the bedding of cats and dogs. After 10 days it needs to be washed in hot water.

The use of Mashenka chalk against fleas is only possible as an adjuvant. Without the use of special preparations for animals, it will not be possible to completely get rid of parasites.
